Scenes from Under Milk Wood reimagines Dylan Thomas’ portrait of a spring day in a Welsh coastal town. The piece brings his vivid cast of characters to life through a blend of aria, recitative, patter song, and spoken voice, capturing the humour, lyricism, and rhythm of the original writing.

Rather than setting the full text, the work draws on selected scenes, structured across Morning, Afternoon, Evening, and Dreams. The cyclical and interweaving lives of ordinary people create a sense of time gently held, allowing space to dwell in their stories as the day unfolds.

The work was a co-commission between the Presteigne Festival, Nova Music Trust, and the Spitalfields Music Festival, and premiered by Nova Music Opera on 2 July 2025 at the Spitalfields Festival, London.
