The Game - Y Gêm - Le Jeu
Operasonic
A film shaped by rugby, music, and the communities surrounding NHSOB in Newport.
The Game is a short film created in collaboration with composer Tayla-Leigh Payne, REDBRCK Film Productions, Fabulo, and Operasonic’s Young Cohort, celebrating the rugby community surrounding Newport High School Old Boys and the wider city of Newport.
Developed through workshops with nearly 200 young people from Newport schools, the project explored self-expression through songwriting, music-making, and performance. The film captures grassroots rugby not simply as a sport, but as a shared ritual shaped by community, identity, and collective experience.
Featuring performances from Operasonic’s Young Cohort and the French ensemble Fabulo, alongside an original score by Tayla-Leigh Payne, the project brought together local voices, live performance, and international collaboration.
