Don Giovanni
Bath Opera
A reimagining of Don Giovanni where desire, power, and control unravel within a family-run hotel.
This production of Don Giovanni relocated Mozart’s opera to a family-run country hotel, where Giovanni’s influence extended through every corridor, dining room, and guest bedroom. Confined within the routines and pressures of the hotel itself, the production explored power, complicity, and control within a tightly enclosed world.
Leporello became both accomplice and employee, trapped within Giovanni’s orbit as relationships between guests, staff, and family members gradually unravelled. Moments of comedy and intimacy sat alongside an increasing sense of unease, allowing Mozart’s shifts between wit and darkness to emerge within the same space.
As tensions escalated, the hotel itself became inseparable from Giovanni’s decline — a crumbling world shaped by desire, manipulation, and consequence.
