capata’s adventure
Operasonic
A multi-sensory opera for babies of Deaf and hearing caregivers, with British Sign Language shaping its rhythm and storytelling.
CaPaTa’s Adventure is a deaf-led, multi-sensory opera currently in development with Operasonic. It reimagines opera through access, communication, and shared experience, inspired by Operasonic’s work on the Lullaby Project with SENCOM and local communities.
The piece follows CaPaTa, a young pirate, and his first mate ParaPara, as they journey across a mysterious island to rebuild their ship. Along the way, they repair their sail, recover lost treasure, and navigate their way home through the stars.
At its core, British Sign Language shapes the structure and musicality of the work, functioning as both language and conductor. With Deaf and hearing musicians and performers working side by side, the piece builds a dialogue between sound, movement, and sign.
The opera creates an intimate sensory world where communication extends beyond words.
