Ysgol St Dwynwen’s School

RWCMD Bmus4

A socially distanced opera collage transforming scenes from multiple composers into the final day of school.

Ysgol St Dwynwen’s School was a collaborative opera scenes project devised with the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama undergraduate class of 2021 during their final year of training.

Developed through a rehearsal process that moved between in-person sessions and Zoom, the production wove together scenes by Britten, Bizet, Mozart, and Gilbert & Sullivan into the final day of a fictional school. Romantic entanglements, classroom drama, staffroom secrets, and an end-of-year prom collided within a single shared world.

The piece embraced ensemble storytelling and theatrical play, using familiar school rituals as a framework through which contrasting operatic styles and characters could exist side by side.

Performed in the Bassey Studio at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in February 2021.
